It was acquired by Direct Rail Services (DRS) who acquired it in 2011 from Riveria Trains. It was named John Scott 12.5.45-22.5.12 in memory of a highly respected member of the DRS Maintenance team at Carlisle who died aged 67. The locomotive was named in June 2013. The naming was carried out in a private ceremony at the DRS Kingmoor Depot which was attended by family and friends.
The locomotive entered traffic as D1935 on 18th March 1966, being renumbered No. 47257 in June 1974. It was renumbered to No. 47650 in March 1986 and again to No. 47805 in August 1989. It has carried several names over the years including ‘Bristol Bath Road’ between June 1991 and February 1995, ‘Pride of Toton’ between 2002 and 2003 when it was in Virgin Trains livery and ‘Talisman’ between 2006 and 2011.
